2022- Let’s Focus

Everything we do this year will be working toward these big goals. Each month we’ll focus on specific areas and tasks to help keep things manageable and fun. When the month is finished, we’ll move on. There is always another chance.

INside the house

We moved to the Red House right at the end of March 2020. It was more of a disorganized rush than we wanted, and we’re still working on the three D’s- de-cluttering, donating, and discarding. Once we have things pared down, then we can consider decorating and remodeling.

Out in the Garage

Our old house has a separate garage. Back in the 1950’s the family who built the house actually lived in the garage first while the house was under construction. It is 2 stories, and has a bathroom and other plumbing connections. It is fusty, dusty, and kind of terrifyingly gross right now, but once we put the work in there will be a nice living space. This year, we want to focus on clearing out and cleaning up.

Back In the Garden

We’ve done the most work on the garden so far, but there are always things to do. Beyond basic upkeep and seasonal planting, this year we are putting in a fire pit, planting a tiny orchard, and taking down some brick planters that are up against the foundation.

IN the Studio

I am a sewing pattern-maker, and one of my goals for this blog is to be able to share projects and patterns with you. I’m developing fabric prints that coordinate with my home dec palette for cushions, quilts, and table linens. There will be dish towels, tea towels, and aprons, and some simple apparel for coordinating deshabille, because who doesn’t want to lounge around the house in matching pajamas?

Organization is Self-Care

n

It can be a major source of inspiration to look around an old house and see all of the potential. It can also be extremely anxiety-provoking. Sometimes when I’m faced with all of the possibilities at once, it is difficult to know how to prioritize. I feel like I have failed before I even begin, and my brain likes to beat me up about it. That is never productive. To counter the urge to soothe myself with procrastination and baked goods, I had to embrace organization as self care. We’ll be talking about this a lot. There will be baked goods.
